In the first century BC, a Greek scholar named Poseidonius reported on the Arverni king Luern and the gigantic feasts he organised. In July 2001, Matthieu Poux, an archaeologist who wrote a thesis on Gallic feasts, began excavations on the Corent plateau in Auvergne. The research focused on a quadrangular enclosure measuring approximately 60 metres on each side, located in the centre of a vast 70-hectare oppidum. The discoveries were spectacular: items of jewellery and weaponry, ‘ghost’ imprints of massive wooden buildings and, above all, thousands of animal remains and wine amphorae: the remains of gigantic feasts…
